Continue Using Windows 7 Pro With Oem Product Key

Hi All:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

from the link, still we can update the W7 to W10 technically i tried & it works by typing the key from the rear side of the system fo activation but i have a question about volume license key

the system equipped with Windows 7 Pro OEM license key, so is it legal to use this tool & upgrade to W10 for OEM based license keys?

Thank you

Best Reagrds,

Karthik

Volume License keys were never part of this particular free upgrade process to 10.

They used Software Assurance for that.

The free upgrade was for Retail and OEM licenses.

Many people are still doing what you did with the OEM key to get it

But, some don't.

You may or may not still get 10 for free.

The free upgrade to Windows 10 offer from Microsoft expired on the 29th July, 2016.

You will have to contact MS support and they may be able to assist you with a free upgrade to 10..

Last week I upgraded one PC with Windows 7 Pro OEM to Windows 10 Pro without major issues.

While using Windows 7 I run Windows 10 setup.exe from USB installer to make in-place upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. When upgrade was done Windows 10, wasn't activated, but entering Windows 7 product key from OEM sticker I get Win 10 activated.

When Win 10 was successfully activated I boot from that Win 10 USB installer, wipe clean whole SSD and did clean install of Windows 10 which activated automatic when install was completed.

I believe Microsoft allow these upgrades on purpose and they have methods to recognize if used key is for Win 7 and prevent Win 10 activation it they want to.

Update = Replace old bugs with new ones.

"... if they want to."

The rule is: An OEM license can't upgrade.

On the other hand, Microsoft wants to get people on Windows 10 any way they can. If that means looking the other way when someone upgrades improperly ... shhh!

FYI:

The free upgrade to 10 from Microsoft was and is for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1Retail and OEM licenses.

If you could not do it, everyone with a Dell, HP, etc. computer using an OEM preinstalled license would have not been able to get the free upgrade from Microsoft to 10.
